Strategic plan

  1. Vision Statement
    1. Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa
Let us keep close together not apart

    Rationale
This whakatauki is used to highlight the isolation of Māori in the industry and to bring them together.

  2. Mission Statement
    1. To encourage and support Māori engaged in librarianship and information management
    2. To advocate kaitiakitanga of taonga within libraries and information institutions
    3. To unite indigenous librarians with innovative, excellent leadership

    Rationale
These are the original statements from Te Rōpū Whakahau's original constitution created in the 1990s. They still have relevance today and form the basis for Te Rōpū Whakahau initiatives, activities, projects, and work.

  3. Interventions
    1. Te Rōpū Whakahau holds hui-ā-tau, issues newsletters, administers to listserves and is involved in the management of library and information qualifications to encourage and support Māori engaged in librarianship and information management
    2. Te Rōpū Whakahau has relationships with organisations and research groups to deliver on on its mission statements and to consider or take on further initiatives of our partners
    3. Te Rōpū Whakahau also supports international indigenous library and information initiatives such as:
      • The establishment of an international indigenous librarians and information workers' council
      • The ratification of council aims and creation of interventions

    Rationale
These interventions help us to deliver on initiatives which arise from our mission statements and allow us the flexibility to take on further initiatives arising from collaborative partnerships.
